Job Summary:

The Netsmart SQL Database Administrator role is largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service related reports (e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with software engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Database administration and configuration for SQL Server.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database infrastructure problems, using native monitoring and third party tools.
  • Tune and optimize T-SQL code. Make well-thought-out decisions on the most complex or ambiguous database code issues.
  • Advanced analysis of index and statistics needs.
  • Manage backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Configure, manage, and recommend High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options.
  • Communicate and coordinate with several teams of engineers from operations, support, engineering, networking and security.
  • Act as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced associates.
  • Build automation and helper scripts to streamline database tasks.

Experience Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of IT standards, concepts, best practices, and procedures—relies on knowledge, experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for purposes of communicating with Software and System Engineering teams.
  • Ability to take initiative & manage multiple detailed tasks in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent organizational, project management abilities, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • 3+ years SQL Server management, build, configuration and support skills.
  • Involvement with the MSSQL Server Community; membership in PASS.
  • Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP.
  • BS in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
